What are you paying each month for utilities?
I stumbled upon a website today that I was not familiar with prior, as I was trying to keep current on all the happenings in Real Estate over the past week. Now, this website is not going to be of much help to those of you interested in Huntsville AL Real Estate (or if you are relocating to Huntsville, AL) or those of you relocating to a small city. But if you live in a big city or are moving to a big city, then this could be of interest to you. The website is called the White Fence Index, and it compares utility rates from major metropolitan areas. When you are thinking about moving, utility rates may be the last thing that you are going to consider being a major impact on your monthly budget. Utility rates are pretty standard across the country, right?
Wrong!
For example, the monthly utility rates for Los Angeles, CA add up to be $193.36 each month. But if you are in Baltimore, MD you are paying on average $359.29. That is a drastic difference.
Take a minute to see what your friends across the country are paying and be thankful that you don’t live in Baltimore.
Another nice feature of the site is the ability to shop across different providers to find the most cost effective option for you and your family if you happen to live in any of the cites listed.

With the cold winter that we had here in North Alabama, to this point (it is 75 degrees outside as I type this), I prefer not to discuss what my utility bills were like. I think we may have rivaled Baltimore for a couple weeks this year. Granted, that may be because we like to keep our homes at 75 degrees in the South, no matter if it is single digit temperatures outside.
If you have great weather where you are, get out and enjoy it. If it is still nasty out where you are, read a few more of my blog posts. Might I recommend: Want to Pay Off Your Mortgage Quicker?

Interesting article. I recently read that Huntsville Alabama was one of the most desirable destinations for relocation.
They cited growing employment (focused on technology and aerospace), high wages, and great neighborhoods.
That is what they used to say about us in California! Somehow, we need to find our way back to doing what you have been doing.
I really enjoyed the comparison of utility costs in Los Angeles and Baltimore – I never realized that!
